Product Review & Ethics Policy
My goal is to provide the community with honest, real-world information from a working home-based shop to help you make informed decisions. To maintain the integrity of my content and the trust of my viewers, I adhere to the following principles for all product reviews:
1. No Paid Reviews
I do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review. While I may receive products at no cost for testing purposes, this does not influence my evaluation. My loyalty lies with my viewers, not the manufacturers. I may work with a manufacturer on affiliate programs that offer sales-based commissions, but my primary purpose is not to make sales, but to educate viewers on realistic product expectations and avoid marketing-speak.
2. Editorial Independence
I maintain full control over the content of my reviews.
- The “No Script” Rule: I do not allow companies to dictate what I say or provide a script for the video.
- Unbiased Testing: I am free to report both the strengths and weaknesses of a product based on my own hands-on testing and experience.
- Purchased vs Free: Products sent for free will receive the same honest, neutral treatment as products I have purchased myself at full retail or a discounted price.
- Prototype vs Production: If a product is a pre-release version, this needs to be clearly stated both before sending the product and will be clearly stated in the review video. Viewers need to understand when the product I am testing might not be the same as the production product they receive.
3. Reviewer-Brand Communication
I aim to be fair to the companies that provide equipment. If I encounter a significant technical issue, defect, or “deal-breaker” during testing:
- I will reach out to the company to determine if the issue is a known bug, a defective unit, or user error.
- This allows the company to provide context or a solution that I can then share with the audience.
- However, reaching out does not mean the issue will be hidden; it simply ensures the information I provide is as accurate as possible.
4. No Pre-Approvals
To ensure an authentic first-look and honest assessment, I do not provide “advanced copies” or preview links of my reviews to companies for their approval before publishing. The first time a company sees the review is when it goes live for the public.
5. Review Timeline & Deadlines
I strive to be efficient, but my priority is a thorough evaluation.
- Testing Period: To fully understand a product’s capabilities and reliability, I typically require 4-6 weeks from the date the item is received before a review is published.
- Deadlines: I will do my best to accommodate specific launch dates or marketing windows, but all deadlines must be agreed upon in writing before the product is shipped to me. I will not rush a review at the expense of accuracy.
6. Publishing & Post-Review Rights
- Content Ownership: I retain full copyright and ownership of all video and written content produced.
- Brand Usage: I will notify the company when the review is live. The company is permitted to use the full, unedited video for promotional purposes provided all original branding remains in place.
- Distribution: It is strictly preferred that the video is embedded from the original source (YouTube) rather than downloaded and re-posted to other platforms.
- Product Ownership: Any product sent for review becomes my property upon receipt and will not be returned unless a return agreement was explicitly signed before shipping.
- Post-Review Disposition: After the review is complete, I reserve the right to use the product as I see fit, including using it for future content, giving it away to my audience, or donating it to a charitable organization.
7. Corrections & Content Removal
- Accuracy: If a factual error is found after a video is published that is my fault (e.g., misstating a spec or price), I will issue a correction via a pinned comment, video description update, or on-screen notation.
- Content Permanence: I will not remove or “take down” a review simply because a company is unhappy with my findings or opinion. Once a review is live, it stays live.
8. Liability & Financial Impact
While I strive for accuracy and fairness in every review, the following terms apply to all products sent for evaluation:
- No Liability for Impact: I will not be held liable for any negative publicity, loss of sales, or damage to brand reputation that may result from my honest review or testing data.
- Assumption of Risk: By providing a product for review, the company acknowledges that the review will reflect my genuine experience, which may include highlighting flaws, defects, or areas for improvement.
- Informational Purposes Only: My reviews are based on my personal experience with the specific unit provided and are intended for informational purposes for my audience.
Agreement of Terms: By shipping a product to me for review, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to all the terms and conditions presented in this policy.
